Legal & Privacy

iShare, at isha.re, turns a long link into a short one. You can use it without creating an account.

How long a short link lasts

When you shorten a URL, the original address and its short code are stored in PostgreSQL. A link stays until you delete it. If you set a number of days or a date, the short link is removed after that. Delete in the menu removes it immediately, and the code stops redirecting.

What stays on this screen

The list under the input is saved in this browser. It is there so you can see the links you shortened on this device, including when you are not logged in. Clearing site data in the browser removes that list. The short links stay until you delete them, or until a date you set.

Cookies

This site stores a confirmation flag and your recent short links in local storage. That is the “cookie” notice on the home screen. iShare does not run advertising trackers.

When someone opens a short link

Opening a short link is counted so you can see how it is used: the time, where it was opened from (for example Google, Instagram, an email, or a direct open), the country, and the device, browser, and system. The IP address itself is not stored. A hash lets repeat opens from the same visitor count as one person. Link previews and known bots are not counted. These stats are available in the browser that created the short link.

Links you publish

Anyone who has a short link can open it. A short link sends visitors straight to the address you entered. Only shorten URLs you are comfortable sharing.
