A short walkthrough of iShare, and answers to the questions that come up while shortening a link.
Tutorial
- Paste the address. Open isha.re and paste the page into Add link. https:// is optional. www.example.com is enough.
- Short it. Choose Short it, or press Enter. iShare stores the address and gives it a short code.
- Copy the short form. The row shows the site name, its icon, and the short form, such as isha.re/rqek. Copy puts the full address on the clipboard.
- Share it. Anyone who opens the short link is sent straight to the original page.
- Use the menu. Open goes to the original page. Edit changes the name, the target, or a date for that one link. Delete removes the short link, and the code stops working.
Frequently asked questions
How do I shorten a link?
Paste the address into Add link and choose Short it, or press Enter. The new row is the short link.
Do I have to include https://?
No. A domain such as www.example.com is accepted. The shortener adds https:// when the scheme is missing.
Why was a link refused?
isha.re links and links from other URL shorteners, such as bit.ly or tinyurl, cannot be shortened. A normal page address can.
How do I copy the short link?
The copy button on the row copies the full address, including https://. The row itself shows the short form without the scheme.
What do Open, Edit, and Delete do?
Open opens the original page. Edit changes the name, the target URL, or a removal date for that one link. The short code stays. Delete removes the short link, and the code no longer redirects.
How long does a short link last?
It lasts until you delete it. A date is optional, and you set it on that link in Edit. There is no expiry choice on the field where you paste a new link.
Where is the list of my links?
On this screen, in this browser. The magnifying glass at the top searches those rows by name. Clearing site data removes the list from the screen. Delete is what removes the short link itself.
Where is the documentation?
Documentation explains the screen: shortening, the row, stats, Open, Edit, and Delete. The API page is for creating a short link from code, with no account and no key.
Do I need an account?
No. Paste a link and shorten it. Login does not ask for a password, because the links on this screen stay in this browser.
The short link says it does not exist. What happened?
The code was deleted, its date has passed, or it was never created. A missing short link opens isha.re with that notice.
